Dr. Haley Backus

Dr. Haley Backus grew up in Port Dover, ON.  She completed her undergraduate studies at Brock University in 2004, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences Degree with Honours. She then moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the renowned New England College of Optometry.  She completed this four year program in 2009 as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Honours Society and graduated with the Salutatorian Award. Fourth year clinical rotations included training in many aspects of optometry care.  This included caring for an underserved population at Codman Square Community Health Center in Boston; focusing on pediatrics and binocular vision at The Vision Institute of Canada in Toronto; primary eye care and contact lens training at Newport Naval Base in Newport, Rhode Island; and managing complicated ocular diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and macular degeneration at Togus Veterans Affair Hospital in Augusta, Maine. Dr. Backus is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the Canadian Association of Optometrists, and the College of Optometry of Ontario. Drs. Backus and Coyne are also members of Eye Recommend.
